Contributing Photos to OrchidWiz

OrchidWiz sincerely appreciates your desire to make the encyclopedia a better product by contributing your digital photos.  We ask that you read the instructions below carefully before becoming a contributor.  If you have questions, please contact us at alex@orchidwiz.com.

Minimum Number Photos

Due to the administrative work involved with keeping track of contributors and processing disclaimer legal paperwork, only collections of 20 or more photos will be accepted.

Photographer and Copyright

Photos must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than you. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted. Your submission of photos and signature on the disclaimer form is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photos.

Ownership and Use Rights

Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs. By submitting your photographs, you agree to have them displayed permanently in OrchidWiz Encyclopedia without any fee or other form of compensation. Each photograph will be credited to its photographer. OrchidWiz retains the discretion to select for publication, or to discontinue from use, any submitted photograph.

Disclaimer

We ask that you download, sign and mail the following disclaimer to OrchidWiz:

Logistics

Because of Inbox-size concerns, we prefer that you send us the digital images via CD or DVD to the OrchidWiz address detailed in the front page.  All photos must be clearly labeled.  We recommend you do not adjust down the original resolution or quality of the photos.  OrchidWiz has an automated process to adjust all photos to 640 by 480 pixels low-density jpegs and we will do so before publishing any photo.

How We Select Photos For Publication

The selection process is multi-staged.  First we add each batch of photos to the image database.  As we approach an update release, we go through every orchid species and hybrid and delete those images which are redundant and of lesser quality.   We make several passes through the list, refining it further each time.  The image database is constantly evolving.

Watermarks

Watermarks are the only effective way to prevent photo piracy but unfortunately they diminish the aesthetic enjoyment of the photo.  If you feel it is necessary to take this step, please let us know the text you would like in the watermark and we will run a batch process to watermark all photos.
